One of the best (free) AV applications is coming from AOL (!) and uses the proven and very effective Kasperksy scanning engine.
But there are voices loud that AOL Active scanner ITSELF is a spyware application, with an EULA which would allow AOL Active Scan to harvest and transmit private data from your PC - something you certainly do NOT want if you look for a program which is supposed to do exactly the opposite: Get RID of viruses and spy/adware....
