AOL Active Scanner is good and free - BUT ...

One of the best (free) AV applications is coming from AOL (!) and uses the proven and very effective Kasperksy scanning engine.

But there are voices loud that AOL Active scanner ITSELF is a spyware application, with an EULA which would allow AOL Active Scan to harvest and transmit private data from your PC - something you certainly do NOT want if you look for a program which is supposed to do exactly the opposite: Get RID of viruses and spy/adware....

According to a report from PC World, small print in the EULA attached to the product allows AOL to harvest data from users' machines, bars users from installing ad-blocking software, and reserves the right to send out spam to email addresses required by the sign-up process. The privileges demanded by the EULA would, if put to use, earn the product the label spyware, according to the StopBadware Coalition.
